Ontañón Rioja Blanco, DOCa Rioja (formerly Vetiver) 2021
Producer Overview
While not yet mainstream, white Rioja is gaining significant popularity, and wines like this one clearly showcase why. Crafted entirely from Viura and aged for four months in American oak, this wine strikes the perfect balance between ripe tropical fruit and a subtle toasty brioche note.
Production
Sourced from Viura grapes grown in the Siete Caminos vineyard, situated on south-east facing slopes, this Rioja Blanco undergoes the traditional aging process for white Rioja. After being aged in American oak barrels for four months, it is further matured in the bottle for six months before release.
Tasting Notes
Rich aromas of pear and jasmine are complemented by tropical fruit notes and a well-integrated touch of oak. On the palate, vanilla oak nuances are balanced by fresh acidity, while flavours of pineapple, crisp lemon, and a hint of brioche emerge on the finish.
Food Pairing
Ideal with lobster or langoustines in a cream-based pasta, or roast chicken dishes.
